Apartment Investment and Management Company is a self-administered and self-managed real estate investment trust (REIT). The Company operates through three segments: Development and Redevelopment, Operating Portfolio, and Other. The Development and Redevelopment segment consists of properties that are under construction or have not achieved stabilization, as well as land assemblages that are being held for development adjacent to its Hamilton on the Bay community. The Operating Portfolio segment includes approximately 24 owned residential communities that have achieved stabilized level of operations. Its portfolio of operating properties includes garden style, mid-rise, and high-rise apartment communities located in 12 states and the District of Columbia. It owns or lease a portfolio of real estate investments focused primarily on the United States multifamily sector.
